This weekend we were again at the fishing lodge, where fishing is strictly forbidden (I’m still working it out), but it’s a decent venue for weddings anyway, fishing or no fishing.
Elaine and Arno were incredibly cool, even Rean, my assistant for the day, mentioned a couple of times how great they were to work with, it reminded me how blessed I am as all my couples are so uber cool to hang out with.
The light was all great, no rain (again), and I got to make an image that I’ve been thinking about for a while now. Thanks to some advice from Dror it turned out pretty awesome. Here it is, with a few more crackers following.
Hi everyone
This weekend we got to hang out at the stylish Forum Homini, and from early on I suspected that this one was going to be a killer wedding….and so it was. “Please don’t rain” prayers were answered, closest friends and family pitched up cheerfully, champagne flowed freely, and everyone just had an overall great time, just as it should be.
Wedding photographers (aka “we”) also had a good time and managed to make some really radical images, but how could we go wrong with Henry and Ilse in front of the lens. Henry is a total fun machine and Ilse about as elegant as you get, so it was always going to be a stunner.
Here are some of my fav’s.
Here are some more images from Chantal and Kobus’ wedding this weekend at Galagos Country Venue east of Pretoria.
A bit more fairy tale like this time around.

No pain, no gain…man, those pipes push out a lotta decibels

one for the boys…how cool are these guys?
More Pretoria weddings
This weekend we were hanging out at Galagos just outside Pretoria off the N4, and what a splendid fairy tale wedding venue this is, tucked away on a hill somewhere in a forest to the east.
The parties involved must have wondered if I was entirely OK as I was staring up at the tall tree tops swaying in the mist the whole time and smiling, occasionally wandering off on my own…was kind of a personal moment for me, but a very beautiful one.
And of course rain did bucket down, but by the time we got to do the couple shoot, it was only the rain dripping from the trees we had to dodge. I kept thinking of the story of ol’ Benjamin Komoetie in Fiela se Kind and I had to wonder if there were perhaps any elephants in the vicinity.
Anyway, getting back to reality, I partnered up with H this weekend to shoot Chantal and Kobus’ wedding, and they were awesome. A big thanks for Chantal and Kobus for being such a sweet couple, I really enjoyed hanging out with you guys.
I’m not sure where the name of this wedding venue comes from, but I had to wonder if it has anything to do with the big sign as you enter the gate that says, “STRICTLY NO FISHING”.
I didn’t see the whole wedding this time as I was comissioned to shoot the reception only, but as they say, the “early bird catches the worm” and I was able to capture a few squigglies before my night shift actually started.

Cindy and I don’t get to go out a lot anymore, so it was quite a delight to do a round of mini “road tripping” this weekend.
The ad in the latest Getaway with they guy fishing persuaded me that we needed to check out the Cradle of Humankind. In the end we only managed to tick off Sterkfontein Caves, sleeping next to pig manure at Brookwood Trout farm, and drinking coffee at Wimpy, Hartebeespoort Dam – though that wasn’t really part of the plan.
I also managed to squeeze in a photograph or two between all the snoozing and the chasing of little monkeys…

judging by the colour and tonal range, this image MUST be at least 50 years old…theoretically at least
