Quietly
present.
Paying attention.

I photograph weddings with a documentary approach — honestly and without intervention, paying special attention to the moments that happen around the edges where no one is trying too hard.

The approach.

I photograph weddings with a documentary approach — quietly and honestly, paying special attention to the moments that happen around the edges where no one is trying too hard.

Every wedding has its own energy. My approach is to be present, to watch closely, and to make photographs that feel true to the day, guiding only where it's appropriate and absolutely needed.

I have always been drawn to the quieter moments — the father standing alone just before the ceremony, the grandmother laughing at something no one else heard, the couple at the end of the night when the performance is over. These are the photographs that last.

"I spend most of my time working in natural, open spaces — often off the beaten path and at non-traditional venues. I still love city weddings, especially when they involve exquisite architecture or places with interesting history."

"Don't shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like."

Background.

I have been photographing weddings all over South Africa and globally since 2008, and I've found that it's the quieter, unforced images that stay. Not the formally posed portraits — though I make those too, when they're wanted — but the photographs that could only have been made by someone who was paying close attention.

Over 17 years I've worked at game reserves and safari lodges across the Greater Kruger, at wine estates in the Cape, at mountain farms in the Drakensberg foothills, at boutique city venues in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and at destinations across Africa and beyond.

I work in Johannesburg and Pretoria, across Mpumalanga and Limpopo, in the Cape, and wherever couples who share my approach to photography choose to celebrate.

Working at a safari wedding, Greater Kruger region

I was born and raised in South Africa, and the landscape here — the light especially — has shaped the way I see. There is a particular quality to late afternoon light in the African bush, or to winter morning light on the Highveld, that I find I keep returning to regardless of where I'm working.

What to expect.

If my approach resonates with you, here is what working together looks like in practice.

  • 01
An initial conversation I like to speak with couples before confirming a booking — by phone, video call, or over coffee if you're in Johannesburg. Not an interview, just a conversation to make sure we're a good fit for each other.
  • 02
Minimal direction I guide only where it's genuinely needed. I will never interrupt a moment to reposition someone for a better frame. The day unfolds; I follow it.
  • 03
Photographs that feel like your day Not a generic wedding album that could belong to anyone. The images I make are specific to the day, the people, the light, the place.
  • 04
Careful editing and delivery I edit everything myself. Your gallery will be delivered within eight weeks of your wedding, via a private online gallery with full download access.
  • 05
Availability and travel I take on a limited number of weddings each year. I travel widely and travel costs are discussed openly as part of the quoting process — no surprises.

Practical information.

Pricing — I don't publish prices on the website because every wedding is different. Coverage duration, travel requirements, and any add-ons (albums, additional photographers) all affect the quote. I'm transparent about costs and will give you a clear, itemised quote after our initial conversation.

Availability — I take on a limited number of weddings each year, both to protect the quality of my work and to give each couple the attention they deserve. If your date is some way off, it's still worth getting in touch — popular months book early.

Albums — I design and supply fine-art wedding albums through a small number of trusted printers. An album is not the same as a digital gallery — it is a physical object that will outlast every screen you currently own.

Second photographers — For larger weddings, or where the day has multiple simultaneous moments happening at different locations, a second photographer can be arranged. This is discussed during the quoting process.
