Documentary wedding photography across Johannesburg, Pretoria and Gauteng — inner city venues, country clubs, Cradle of Mankind, and the open Highveld.

Johannesburg & Pretoria

Rooted in Johannesburg.
Working everywhere.

Johannesburg is where most of my wedding work has its roots, and after more than seventeen years photographing here I know the city and its surrounding landscape well — the way the grass glows late in the afternoon on the highveld plains, the mood of shadows stretching over a grass lawn in the suburbs, and the architectural character of the city's older venues.

Johannesburg weddings are as varied as the city itself. I've photographed intimate ceremonies at boutique hotels in the northern suburbs, large celebrations at country venues in Muldersdrift, industrial-chic weddings in Maboneng, and quiet civil ceremonies that spilled out into a family home's garden. The setting changes; the approach stays the same.

Pretoria is a twenty-minute drive and I work there regularly. The Jacaranda City has its own distinct character. It's a little quieter, more residential, with some beautiful venues set in established gardens and historic properties.

Venues & areas

Places I know well.

A selection of venues and areas I've worked at. If your venue isn't here, I'm likely familiar with it or happy to visit in advance.

The approach

The same
wherever I am.

Documentary-first, unhurried, paying attention to the moments that happen around the edges. That's the approach at a Johannesburg wedding the same as anywhere else.

What's particular to Johannesburg is the light — the city sits at 1,750 metres above sea level, and the Highveld sky has a clarity and intensity that's unlike anywhere at lower altitude. Late afternoon light here has a quality I never take for granted.

I know how the city moves, where to position for the late sun at certain venues, and how to work in the heat of a Highveld summer afternoon. Seventeen years of working here adds up to something useful.
